I need opinions on Oswego, Yorkville area
Hello,
My family (me the husband and 3 kids) are thinking about moving to the Oswego area, we visited about 2 weeks ago and thought it was a really nice little town. Loved the river being so close, but I don't really know anything about the area. Are the schools good, is there a lot of crime...gangs etc? My husband would be communting to Warrenville, and it didn't seem to be that bad of a commute. We would appreciate any feedback. We will probably be moving in about 6 months to a year. Still gotta sell the current house..... ok maybe year and a half with the current markets. Still would appreciate any help. Thanks

My friend attended school in Yorkville and he had no problem getting into a University (University of Illinois - Urbana). So I'm pretty sure it is alright in that area. I'd rather live in Oswego than Naperville.
Good luck.

Im sure there are some gangs in Oswego, seeing how close it is to Aurora. I wouldnt call it bad by any means, but Im almost positive there has to be gangs in Oswego. In any case, why not look into Warrenville itself? There are many charming areas of town, and its much more affordable than Naperville.

I really like the small town feel that oswego had, plus I think its more affordable than Naperville and Warrenville. I really don't know much about the Warrenville area so maybe I am being to quick to judge. But thnks for the input.

Oswego and Yorkville are both nice towns. there is a wide variety of housing stock available in each area..older homes as well as new construction. Oswego recently passed a huge school referendum to add more schools due to the rapid growth. they are also getting a ton of commercial/retail development along rt 34, while retaining a nice downtown. Yorkville is also a rapid-growth community. they too passed a school referendum recently and are also experiencing some commercial/retail growth. They, like everyone else, are experiencing a rapid slow-down in housing starts right now. it will remain to be seen how well their local government has planned for it! I would also encourage you to investigate sugar grove. we are directly west on I88, which gives you that extra quick commute to warrenville! you don't have to deal with much traffic just to get to the tollway. we also have a wide variety of housing available in numerous price ranges. our Kaneland school district also recently passed a school ref. we do not have as much commercial/retail as oswego or yorkville, but we are a friendly, fiscally responsible community.

There is no gang problem in oswego.I live in this town. You don't have to worry about gangs.Very safe here. After school programs was costing us about $25 per kid a year.1 1/2 hour a day for two or three days a week. The programs consist of sports and academics programs such as math clubs. The problem is young kids using drugs.I heard their is more drug usage in naperville than any of the surrounding suburbs.

Oswego have a new school that will not be opening due to the short comings of the housing market. There isn't enough students to enroll in the school.Oswego build a new junior high and have no idea of what to do with the older one. There is talks of turning it into a community center. They also cancel the the plan to build 7 or more schools. That is what i heard from my plummer buddy whom employer had the contracts for the job.

Oswego is a nice community, and a GREAT bang for your buck real estate wise. It is not quite as built up as Warrenville. Still lots of open space. If your commute is only to Warrenville, Oswego would be a wonderful choice. It's up and coming.
