Stone Park - what are your thoughts on it?
My buddy who lives in Melrose Park always tells me to stay out of Stone Park though I like to frequent some of the lingerie bars in that area. He said that Mannheim is a speed trap and the cops there will pull you over for any little thing but to anyone who lives there, how is the town in general? The times I've driven through during the day, there doesn't seem to be much going on at least on the east side of town.

cops
A buddy and I were going to stop into Carl's but decided against it when we saw a guy in a police shirt carding at the door so we drove down the road to Bobby's. Cops and those types of places aren't supposed to mix.
Shady indeed.

Don't go over the speed limit, not even one mile over because the police are looking to pull you over. Talk about money hungry.

I drive through it on Mannheim about 2-3 times a week. The strip is so damn ugly. I do see cops all of the time and I try very hard to not speed.

I lived in Stone Park from 1984-1992 and it was a really nice town in the beginning. Cute well kept houses, kids riding their bikes, Sharp's Park and pool was the place to be in the summer...overall a great middle-class town. Then as the 90's rolled around there was definitely a turn for the worse. Though I have always known that the town government was corrupt. Even as a kid I knew there were sleazy places on Mannheim but they were just kind of ignored. Most of the older families have moved out. It's really sad to see what the town has become.
I avoid Mannheim Rd like the plague. Not because of the businesses but because of the cops being jerks.
I miss the old Stone Park....Mike T's on 37th and Lake, Palermo's on Lake St, Rosie's on Soffel and Mannheim. I guess all good things come to an end.
