What about Tinley park schools?
What about Tinley Park elementary school districts, especially Kruse and Central? Are there any problems that a future resident of Orland Park that uses these schools should now. How diverse are these schools and how are their academics rated?

There are soooo many schools in towns like tinley park...they are generally good schools but tinley park borders towns like country club hills and east hazel crest which are turning for the worse. so yes, tinley schools are pretty good now but how long they will remain liek taht i have no idea.

East part of Orland park
Can anyone comment on the east side of Orland Park, particularly the area called Catalina off of Wheeler and Harlem. I believe this part of Orland uses Tinley elementary schools and is has some pretty affordable bi levels and ranches. Will this area hold up and is it diverse?

Tinley's getting quite an Arabic influx, I can say that with certainty. My in-laws just moved from there to Lemont and definitely noticed an uptrend in that population over the past 5 years or so. African-Americans, not so much. But if Chicago continues to gentrify and CCH, EHC, Homewood, and other nearby suburbs decline, who knows? I could see that happening, and a corresponding adverse reaction from white residents down there to go along with it.
In short, you may be better off springing for the most affluent part of Orland Park, assuming you can afford it. Parts of Orland which rely on Tinley's schools could be a risky bet if you are diversity-adverse and want a long-term monocultural experience.
Glad I don't mind diversity! It's really hard to predict this stuff. You just don't know where those darn minorities will pop up next.

it's not diversity...it's criminals and gang bangers. no wonder you don't mind the criminal element...you are from berwyn! that influence continues to spread into peaceful suburbs with good, INTACT families, and schools. just ask the local police departments as their number of robberies, burglaries, and auto thefts have increased beyond anything they've seen so far but it will only increase as those who ruin their towns will abandon them to only ruin other towns...you don't mind "diversity" because you have no other choice.

Wow, [someone] on a message board judging my balance sheet. How original. FWIW, my house is worth more than the OP's budget for Orland Park, Elmhurst, or whatever "safe haven" she's asking about that day so I have plenty of choices of where I could live. I chose Berwyn, and have no intention of leaving anytime soon. I like the location, housing stock, access to the Loop, the level of community involvement you see here and, yup, the diversity.

Must have a real mansion?
Its funny, but according to the Multiple Listing Service of Illinois, the most expensive single family home ever sold in Berwyn is $475,000. I am searching for a home in the Orland Park and maybe Elmhurst area for $400,000 or so. So, get your facts right unless you have a Berwyn mansion that we would all love to hear about.
P.S.- you must have solid gold fixtures and marble toilets.

No, it's definitely not a mansion, which would be pretty hard since Berwyn doesn't have any mansions. It's primarily bungalows and Victorians on city-sized lots. 3,500 square feet is generally the high end. And if you looked up the high price on MLS you probably also noted more than a few sales in Berwyn over $400k in 2007-08, and more still between $350-400k. But in any case, I'm not here to talk about Berwyn's housing values (or my toilets or fixtures, which are personal thank you). You're trying to buy diversity insurance and if houses in Berwyn are selling near or over your budget (often times to Hispanics) well..... You see where I'm going with that.

I love Berwyn. My wife and I lived there by the LaVerne train station. She's Mex-American and I'm white. Our landlord said we were the perfect demographic Also, aren't the Mexicans with money starting to take over Riverside? My uncle was telling me Riverside will soon have to change their slogan to "Where Mexicans cut the lawns of Mexicans."

I haven't seen too many Latinos in Riverside, but that doesn't mean they're not moving there. They could very well be. Hispanics are moving west in roughly the same pattern as their European predecessors did. The old saying was that you grew up in Cicero, raised your kids in Berwyn, and then retired and died in Riverside
