Just a personal opinion but I live in the 60435 zip code (I'm in college now and have since I was in kindergarten). However, I went to Plainfield schools (which were good), but that just depends on the zoning. I have no problems with crime or anything like that where I live. Joliet's border are so screwed up, and it really extends all over the place. So it's hard to say by zip code where you would be best off. I would consider more what other nearby towns you want to be closest to.

I live in Joiliet. Plainfield SD #202 (60431). I would look closely at the schools. My kids test very high on standardized test and are honor roll students. Unfortunately, they are not the norm. I am really disappointed that the district seems to, until recently, have ignored the poor test scores in the district's high schools. The middle & elementary school are pretty good, but the high schools are really struggling. For the life of me I cant figure out why. All the things needed to have a quality school district are here.
The schools are funded well. Its a middle class area. They're safe. Although I feel the home plays a big factor,I'm hearing there are other factors that may explain the low test scores. I have no solid evidence, but I'm hearing that the district has alot of young teachers and that may be also play a part. Also the size of the district could also be a factor. This district is huge, maybe a little too big.
Plainfield Central HS, for example, was rated a 4 by one of the school rating systems. IMO, its more like a 6. But with the proper support from home I think it could easily be a 10 for your child. They have brought on a panel of educators from other school districts to help them with the low test score problem. They have already started study programs to better prepare the students for the standardized tests, and the top 20% students are supposed to recieve some extra classes for ACT testing. So at least things are starting to move in the right direction.
Other than this, the 60431 area is great. No crime, great shopping, many resteraunts, and good people.

The town has a crime rate far below that of Joliet and other towns to the north and west. Even so, I-80 can take you to or past Joliet in a mere matter of minutes.
New Lenox has grown from 5,000 in the early 80's to 21,846 now. We have all the amenities of a larger town WITHOUT all the negative aspects. My wife and I raised our three children here (all graduated from L-W). I'm retired now but plan to live in this fine town for as long as I can figure.
Should you decide to move here, WELCOME!

Gee, nice Dex. You were just bashing Lincoln-Way in another one of your posts. Let's take a look and see if you remember...

Of course this is a bunch of crap. Funny how the search feature works, isn't it?

I'm in 60435 and love it. We're on Renwick Rd. and have Crest Hill next door, Romeoville across the street and Plainfield just west of us. We're right in the middle of it all! The mall is 2 minutes away and the new shopping on Weber is nice and convenient. The homes here are about 5 years old and we have Plainfield schools. I don't know much about the other zip codes but our area is nice...and quiet!

I'm at. University of St. Francis, and would not hesitate to live anywhere near here, OR St. Joe's hospital. Those are both 60435, in case anyone is wondering. It's definitely a more "Chicago" feel around here with the much older, more beautiful (imho) housing. The historic ridge district is a thing of beauty.

Here is the link to the Joliet news paper. Joliet is one of those towns that has some lovely small neighborhoods. They are not big enough to have their own zip code. A general rule. Stay NW of the intersection of Larkin & RT30. Having said that remember my first statement. There are other places.

What do you really find wrong with S.E. of Larkin & Rt 30?
