Joliet almost 150,000 people
I was shocked at the 2007 estimates to see Joliets population expected to be 145,800 people, from 106,221 in 2000

Joliet has had a lot of suburban-sprawl new home construction as well. It's not just the old Joliet everyone thinks of anymore.

If the racial makeup of my students is of any indication, this is probably true. I think of most of the white kids are at Joliet Catholic. In the neighborhoods I know pretty well in J-town, there are a lot of old white people who have been there their whole life.

I think this has more to do with the population jump. Joliet annexed tons of new land on the far West side by Plainfield/Shorewood and tons of new homes have popped up there.

No shocker there. Joliet is the hub of Will County...the 9th fastest growing County in all of America. The only county to make the top 10 list without residing in the Sun Belt.
All of those towns by Joliet are blowing up. Frankfort, New Lenox, just name it. That county is booming!

I agree. Will County is a raging inferno of cookie cutter subdivisions and strip malls. Strangely, people love it. But if you look at all of Chicagoland's counties throughout time, theyve all experienced huge booms and have only slowed due to lack of room to grow.

They love it only due to the EXTREMELY low crime rates (Check Mokena, New Lenox, etc.) and because of the ELITE schools (Lincoln Way District 210) not to mention the wonderful park services that offer United States Award Winning caliber parks and bike trails (such as the Old Plank Trail). Low crime rates, beautiful parks, and elite schools = perfect place to raise a family.

My sister lives in Homer Glen with her large family (4 kids) and LOVES everything about it. Not my style at all, but it has great schools and enough "stuff" to satisfy her needs. I just hope they don't bulldoze all the farmland out there to compete with congested Orland.
Will County as a whole is VERY nice if you want a simple, conservative, comfortable family life. I'd just be worried about sprawl and taxes.
