Northwestern Football Question
I am thinking that I might want to go to the Northwestern-Illinois football game this year, which is at the end of November. Given the time of year, the weather is a big question mark, and I'd rather wait to buy tickets as the game gets closer.
Can anyone tell me what the chances are that a game like that would sell out? Illinois is supposed to be pretty good, and Northwestern should be at least competitive, so I'm wondering if tickets will be hard to get. Should I consider getting tickets now? Or are Northwestern tickets pretty much always available, even for the Illinois game?

You should get tickets now - hundreds of thousands of Illinois alum live in Chicago and would rather drive to Evanston than go all the way down to Champaign for a game, even when Illinois is bad these tickets can be hard to get. With Illinois coming off the Rose Bowl, you'd be best off buying the tickets ASAP. Good thing is that NU tickets are relatively cheap compared to the rest of the big 10.
And if it's cold, well, put on a pair of thermals, your mittens, a hat, some thick socks and suck it up... cold weather is what Big 10 football is about.

Sloopy, I'm an NU alum and a football season ticket holder. Traditionally, the only Northwestern games that sell out are when we play Ohio State, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Despite U of I's huge alumni base in the Chicago area their fans usually don't bother to show up when they play in Evanston. In fact, they usually don't bother to show up in Champaign either-- I've got many friends who are U of I students/alums and they've never had trouble getting tickets for themselves, friends, or family down in Champaign. Illini football ticket sales are up last year and this year because of 2007's success but they haven't consistently sold out since the 80's.
But I'm getting off topic. Bottom line: you should be fine waiting until closer to game day.

My husband is an alumni and season ticket holder as well! I think you should buy your tickets now. U of I isn't as popular as others mentioned, but it could sell out easily.

Some NU games are poorly attended, some come close to selling out (last year's Michigan game). I would hedge my bet and get the tickets now.
