The only "crime infested" southern suburbs are Calumet City, Dolton, Chicago Heights, Riverdale, Harvey, Ford Heights, Markham, Robbins, with Sauk Village on the way.

The rest of them are very livable and family "orientated". The other south suburbs only "crime" seems to be that black people (i.e. your "urban influence") live there. By the way, Richton Park (as well as Park Forest, Lansing, and Lynwood) has a lower crime rate than Homewood.

Like NYrules said, one only needs to visit these places personally to see the family atmosphere.

Who ever said Homewood was a solid place to live? It is decent compared to glenwood or chicago heights but it is still not an ideal place to live. It is surrounded by horrible suburbs. Its' police force does a good job but it doesn't change the fact that it is nothing compared to New Lenox, Frankfort, and Mokena.

Only an inexperienced person would suggest that the southern suburbs are the best suburbs to live in (compared to the western and northern suburbs). And your list of crime infested towns is short, refer back to mine for a more accurate list.

and urban influence simply means CRIME and lack of values in education.

oh i don't know...murders for example...UNSOLVED murders at that.

you can deny it all you want bottomline is it comes down to simple geography. tinley park borders crime infested suburbs such as country club hills which means it is only a natural process for the urban influence to continue to spread south and west like it is doing as we speak.

Whatever. I saw your list and it was BS, which is why I made a new, "more accurate" list in my post.

I didn't even include Hazel Crest, Riverdale, Phoenix, etc.

"Calumet City, Glenwood, Lansing, Park Forest, Blue Island, South Holland, Lynwood, Matteson, Chicago Heights, Dolton, Robbins, Harvey, Ford Heights, Markham, East Hazel Crest"

Cal City: Crime Rate: 600.6 http://www.city-data.com/city/Calume...-Illinois.html

Sauk Village: Crime Rate: 537.7 http://www.city-data.com/city/Sauk-V...-Illinois.html

Glenwood: Crime Rate: 287 http://www.city-data.com/city/Glenwood-Illinois.html

Lansing: Crime Rate: 272 http://www.city-data.com/city/Lansing-Illinois.html

Park Forest: Crime Rate: 257.7 http://www.city-data.com/city/Park-Forest-Illinois.html

Blue Island: 492.2 http://www.city-data.com/city/Blue-Island-Illinois.html

South Holland: 272 http://www.city-data.com/city/South-...-Illinois.html

Lynwood: 261 http://www.city-data.com/city/Lynwood-Illinois.html

Matteson: 457.8 http://www.city-data.com/city/Matteson-Illinois.html

Chicago Heights: 692.2 http://www.city-data.com/city/Chicag...-Illinois.html

Dolton: 362.8 http://www.city-data.com/city/Dolton-Illinois.html

Robbins: 569.3 http://www.city-data.com/city/Robbins-Illinois.html

Harvey: 1,009.1 http://www.city-data.com/city/Harvey-Illinois.html

Markham: 380.8 http://www.city-data.com/city/Markham-Illinois.html

East Hazel Crest: 308.3 http://www.city-data.com/city/East-H...-Illinois.html

Ford Heights: 4,004.3 http://www.city-data.com/city/Ford-H...-Illinois.html

and then...

Hazel Crest: 275.7 http://www.city-data.com/city/Hazel-Crest-Illinois.html

Phoenix: 449.5 http://www.city-data.com/city/Phoenix-Illinois.html

Riverdale: 711.7 http://www.city-data.com/city/Riverdale-Illinois.html

Maywood: Crime Rate: 748.9 http://www.city-data.com/city/Maywood-Illinois.html

Urban Influence is rampant in the above towns which simply means lack of values in education and ridiculously high crime rates.

In comparison:

Mokena: 90 http://www.city-data.com/city/Mokena-Illinois.html

New Lenox: 93.3 http://www.city-data.com/city/New-Lenox-Illinois.html

OK, these are the ones you mentioned in your "accurate" list that I left out of my list. Let's look at their "ridiculously high crime rates" compared to the national average of 287.3:

Glenwood: 287
Lansing: 272.5
Park Forest: 257.2
Blue Island: 492.2
South Holland: 272.0
Lynwood: 261.0
Matteson: 457.8
East Hazel Crest: 308.3

With the exception of Matteson and Blue Island, they are below the national average. I don't remember anyone saying that the south suburbs are the "best place to live", just that the entire region shouldn't automatically be counted out because some of the towns have high crime rates.

Oh and let's add:

Hazel Crest: 274.7
University Park: 276.7
Crete: 162.7

Wow, those are "ridiculously high" aren't they?

Yes, there was one horrible incident there last Feb. Nothing had happened there in years before that and nothing has happened since, I would say it was an isolated incident. I guess Palatine is a horrible place to live because of the Browns Chicken murders, which was also an isolated incident. I just heard on the news there is a hostage situation in Wheaton right now, I guess Wheaton is dangerous, right? The reason the Lane Bryant murders got so much attention is because Tinley Park is a safe place, the kind of place you think nothing like that can happen. It can happen anywhere, including the North and West suburbs.

Sky, you obviously aren't fortunate enough to live in a suburb such as Mokena and the homer in you just wants to argue until the cows come home. Yes, those crime rates are ridiculously high. And why mention crete? Crete is a fine place to live. Just give it up, you can't deny hard facts.

National average...HAHAHA...if what you strive for is the national average no wonder you think towns like East Hazel Crest are fine places to raise families...

I gave examples of fine towns to raise families in and Hazel Crest is not it...lol...

I'm fortunate enough to live in a home that we own, drive a car, have food, and be able to live in a safe town. That's all I need. I post on here for fun and to learn things about my hometown and occasionally have healthy debates, not be "owned" or argue with narrow-minded people.

Oh that's right, Crete is mostly white, so in your book that makes it A-OK.
