Grayslake - Chicago Commute
I'm considering taking a job in Chicago (3 blocks from Union Station) but I will have to commute from Prairie Crossing / Grayslake. I was thinking about Libertyville but there isn't much parking near the Metra.
It seems like the metra ride will be around 1:10 mins to the city and around 55 mins back.
Does anyone to a train commute this long? Generally do you think I will grow to hate it or is this normal?
Thanks....

I know a couple people that would have to take the train from Joliet everyday and it was somewhere around that timeframe to get downtown. I think they liked taking the train b/c they would read the paper or do some work on their laptops on the way there. They could even go back to sleep if they wanted! Ha! Things you couldn't do if you were driving to the city! And they would hate sitting in the awful traffic if they drove so the train was the better option for them.

The commute from P.C to Union station does seem long---I've done it plenty of times myself... But like the other poster said if you bring a lap top and count the commute as part of your "office time" than its really not bad at all.

I took the Metra train from Round Lake to Chicago for a few years. I got a lot of reading done in the hours I spent on the train.
Still, I was glad when I was able to retire, and I didn't have to make that trip everyday.

Where do you actually live exactly? How long will it take you to get to the station?

I live in Gurnee, right next to grayslake. It should take about 5 mins to get to the train station. I'm looking at the prairie crossing subdivision but the taxes there (Grayslake) are so high.

I don't know where you live in Gurnee, but the Grayslake stations are potentially far longer than five minutes away, especially in rush hour. I would time it in the morning first.

I timed it in the morning.. however, in the evening it is longer but that doesn't concern me as much because I'm on an express train. For me its a half mile drive to 45 then past prairie crossing subdivision and a right to the train station. It's around 5-6 minutes for me at 6:45

Prairie Crossing into Gurnee can be 5-20 minutes depending where you live in Gurnee.
