Default Des Plaines

I have friends that live there, they seem to like it. I am not sold though. What are your thoughts on Des Plaines? Schools?

I like their downtown area. My hubby is convinced it's the next up and coming town (like Park Ridge was 10 years ago).

Thoughts?

What is your house budget, how important are schools and where does work bring you and DH daily?

If schools are important, I would stay in Mt. Prospect Dist 57, AH Dist 25 or Prospect Hts. 23. The HS will be better also than Maine West or Maine East. Prospect HS is step above Hersey, Rolling Meadows and Wheeling HS. Stay North of Euclid and West of Rte 83 in the Randhurst area. You won't get as much house for the money, but better school districts always are reflected in home prices.

Yes...I already live in that area. I'd LOVE to stay in this area. We simply can not afford it, or the taxes. Trust me, I've beaten my head against a wall numerous times trying to figure out a way to make it work. It won't. Small house won't work-what if we expand the family? I like to live comfortably I don't want a McMansion or anything near that but the size of the houses in this area for our price range are tiny, not updated and on top of one another.
