Thinking of opening up a business in Monee..
I am thinking of opening up a dog grooming salon in Monee. I know that the town has one other groomer and am concerned that the town may be too small to support two groomers. Any dog owners in the Monee area with advice?

if the demographics support it, i would say go for it. Monee is fairly small but it is by booming towns like frankfort so i would guess that monee's population would be increasing. they do have some areas with new home construction. if i were you, i would spend most of the available $$$ on advertising in papers like the star so you can get residents from the frankfort area. Prestwick Country Club has many rich people and that area is fairly close to Monee so if you are caring and offer a low price, you can draw people from the neighboring towns that have larger populations. it's a tough call though. in today's economy, unless you are rich, i think paying for a dog groomer is lower on the list than it used to be of things to do.

I am a dog owner but I don't live in Monee. My friend owned a dog grooming business for many years and said it was not a super profitable business. She sold it last year. Just make sure you really know the area and investigate how the other business in town is doing. I agree with the previous response, in this day many people are reducing the amount of "extras" they spend each month and I'd think trips to the groomers may fall into this group. Sometimes a trip to the bathtub is just fine

Don't do it. How many people in Monee can even afford dog grooming in the current economy?

First off where did you plan on locating? if it is on Monee Manhattan Rd. in the new strip mall, then I hope you have deeeeeep pockets. The rents there are out of touch, that is why its empty. Remember Monee is a HomeRule town, and they have some very stupid rules. Business licenses are expensive, and basically you have to play by thier rules. They think they are a big city. I live here and if I could sell my home and not take it in the pants, I would move in a heart beat.

There is a dog groomer in Monee - It's called Bark and Bathe - something like that on 50 just befor the viaduct. Is that you? I brought my mom's dog there about a month ago. Good job!! and Ophidian14 - Why would you think people in MOnee wouldn't be able to afford it? There are many many people in MOnee with more than enough money to have their dog groomed! I'm tired of the south side being portrayed as a bunch of country bumpkins - and redneck farmers. You know what many of those Country Bumbkins have more money than people in the Northern Suburbs who spend money on excessive high taxes and million dollar homes. Monee people can actually afford to have the luxeries like motorcycles, snowmobiles, animals, motorhomes and the like, and really enjoy them.

When Monee is a suburb of Chicago, I'll know it's time to move.

Chummy waters - you seem to have something admittedly against the south suburbs. Monee has been suburb of Chicago for nearly 90 years. (And Matteson is not short for Matt's son) The south suburbs have a lot to offer. First of all they are more affordable, easily accessable by train to the city, and best of all there's still room to play. The country is just a mile south of me and the city is only 30 minutes away - it can't get much better than that!! City folks and Northern Burbinites - there's no need to come see us - you'll just invade what we already know as the most prized asset of the south suburbs - space and clean air to breath, and no stuffy neighbors!!!!

You're right refade, I stand corrected. Yes, Monee is technically a suburb of Chicago....just not on my radar. I'm glad you're an enthusiastic supporter of the south suburbs. As my job takes me all over Chicago and the burbs, I have to tell you that my experiences in "the Heights", Cal City, Dolton, and Harvey have not been the best ones. When I know I have to go south for work, I cringe, but that's just what my experience has been. You obviously have a different viewpoint of the area. That's just how it goes, we all have opinions based on our experiences.

The south suburbs are not all inclusive of The heights, Cal City, Dolton and Harvey - those are clearly not the best of the south suburbs and have had that rep for over 30 years - However - you need to travel just a short distance further south to find cities like Crestwood, Oak Forest, Homewood, Flossmoor, Olympia Fields, Crete, Beecher, Peotone, Manteno, Park Forest and Monee. Great areas to live and work and even travel though. I wouldn't even consider those you mentioned ( except maybe the heights ) as south suburbs but rather an extention of the south side of the city of Chicago.
