Default Orland Park?

We've found a house in Orland Park. Can anyone tell me about this area?

Orland Park is very nice, with good schools, and it is the retail capital of the South Suburbs with the Orland Square Mall, different restuarants, and also have one of the largest number of car dealerships, with almost every type of car from Honda to Mercede Benz car dealerships on 159th St.

It's a solidly middle and upper-middle class suburb. You'll probably get better responses in the "Chicago Suburbs" forum, however. The moderator may just move this post over there.

You dont have to make a duplicate in the burb forum. I already asked a mod to move this one.

Orland is a great area - I live just south of Orland, but really nothing bad about Orland - aside from traffic near the mall on weekends. Outside of that it is a great area - but compared to other burbs, traffic is not that bad.

What do you want to know about the area? The usual questions???

Is it safe? YES, Is it prospering? YES, is the town "changing"? no, are taxes resonable? VERY, are schools top of the line? For sure, is there alot to do for kids? Like none other and your kids can stay in shape like a professional athlete thanks to the Orland/Tinley Park area now having about every gym immaginable within a 10 mile radius. Is there plenty of shopping? GOD YES! Too much to be honest. How are the restaurants in town? Well, if you like italian or greek cuisine you are in luck without a doubt as the area has a strong italian and greek presence. The area also now boasts about every chain there is with the exception of a few like; Cheesecake Factory and Claim Jumper. How are medical/hospitals? Orland utilizes Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights which has been known to be one of the better community hospitals in Chicago proper. Police and fire rescue have held themselves to a standard of responding to an emergency situation in under 2 minutes which is amazing but pretty accurate. How good are the police anyways? Orland cops are without a doubt no-nonsense and run a tight ship. I have had a few run ins with them for minor traffic violations as well as stuff going on in the association where I live and the police are top of the line and I know I wouldn't want to ever mess with them. How is recreation in town? Orland Park has been working hard to make the town not only a place to come shop, but also play. The town is working hard to have the most amount of parks within it's city limits over any other town allowing families to let their kids go out and play instead of sitting in their bedroom playing their XBox as there is nothing else to do but sit and get fat.

Here is some more information on the town.

Lots and lots and lots of traffic. Good schools, good people, plenty of things to do. The major drawback is the plethora of cars that are on Orland Park's streets. Not to mention the countless big box retailers and tons of car dealerships that litter 159th. If you don't mind looking at these retailers, then it's not so bad. But it is most definently not a quiet suburb. It's teeming with businesses that attract people from all over the the southern and western suburbs.

You can see the lights of a shopping mall or a car dealership from most subdivisions in the town. For me, the negatives would be that it lacks diversity, has huge volumes of traffic and just an over abundance of strip malls that line Harlem and Lagrange Roads, as well as 159th Street. The older part of town has a few antique shops clustered in a two block area, but the majority of the village is one subdivision of tri-levels after another.
