Sparkman is on a distinguished road
Ok, I'm still live here, but hope to be moving next year to Tn. But, some info about the area now. Leno's has reopened, was closed for about a year, the original owners passed away & his wife sole it all to a gentleman who owns one of the 24hr Greek Waukegan restaurants. Still good. Quonset, still Quonset. They do have frozen pizzas if you can get a friend to buy them & ship them to you. Lakehurst, not here anymore. Now called Fountain Sqaure, a Walmart Supercenter, stores, restaurants, etc and build and casino there if Waukegan gets the bid. By the way, there is a Walmart supercenter in Zion now too. Rooks has reopened as another restaurant. MSFoom, you are thinking of Glen Rock soda, in the 7 oz bottles. Hope you have a great trip home for the holidays.

Lakehurst closed while I was still there.... I remember going to that mall when I was a teenager and all the sailors that hung out there...
That was before Gurnee Mills was even built.

Thank you for letting me know Quonset has frozen pizzas... I had no idea. I'll have to ship some home to myself when I am visiting! I already plan to send myself some things from Cake box Bakery....

I also didnt know that Leno's closed for a year.. thats sad. I hope its still similiar to what I remember, because that's one thing I was really really looking forward to.

My girlfriends and I also hung out at Lakehurst Mall when we were teenagers. And there were so many sailors that approached us. We had this game of "Who can steal the most sailor hats." We'd just all grab the hats from their heads and RUN. We were 15 year-old terrors. I wonder how much trouble those sailors got into for losing their hats...

p.s. My parents purchased my 1st birthday cake from Cakebox Bakery many, many years ago. It was a clown cake.

Default Cake Box

My mom worked at the Cake Box when I was young... we got lots of goodies from there.

She also worked at the Dunes theater, when it was only one screen, and they showed a kids movie in the afternoon and a grown up movie in the evening.

I am actually leaving New York tomorrow for my Illinois vacation.. I am SO excited to see how things have changed.

3.Driving into Kenosha to the Drive In with 2 people in the trunk.
4.Chuck's Dog House.
5.The Cake Box and their Strawberry Shortcake.
6.The entire walk home from Central-just the views.
7.The Arabic,Indian, muslim women working at the corner store gas stations-and definetly the 25 cent snack cakes.
8.The way people say goodmorning and good day if they are out walking there dogs.
9.Walking around at 3:00 in the morning down Sheridan and ther being No One around not driving-not walking...creepy.
10.I miss all my friends I have had no "friends" since I moved you know there you know there mom,dad-they went to school with your mom, everything about them and how to get into there homes when their parents are sleeping.
