Remove Benenville from your short list. River Grove and Elmwood Park are better options, as are Elmhurst, Itasca and Roselle.

It's been many years but EGV had a very good park district. Make this a top priority in your search. Check websites or call them directly. We lived in Bedford Park District when we lived in Chicago and they had a lot of activities for children. We had no idea when we moved there and were pleasantly surprised to be there. It takes a neighborhood to raise children.

If you loved Hyde Park, especially the diversity aspect, I would look into Oak Park. I have lived in both, and they are very similar in atmosphere. Oak Park is a little farther from the airport than some of the laces you are looking, but no more than a 30 minute drive (I go past O'Hare on my way to work, so I'm very familiar with how long it takes!)

Des Plaines or Niles might work for you.

I have some family (with little kids) in Villa Park and they are very happy there. There is good shopping close by and my family is happy with the schools. One has their kids in private school, the other in public school. It is also pretty diverse (from what I hear), as you said that was important.
