Rentals around Joliet (apartments, safe neighborhood, middle school)

I will be relocating to the Joliet area for a job from Northern Indiana. I am looking for a 1/2 bedroom rentals in the $800 range or less that allows cats. I have been looking in and around Joliet, but feel a bit lost because I don't know the area. (I have been trying more for the outside of Joliet, but haven't had much luck) In Joliet I was looking @ The Birches Apartments. I was wondering if anyone knew if this was a good complex/good area. I am open to suggestions if anyone has any!

That's right around the corner from St. Joe's hospital, and is considered the West Side of Joliet. My wife and I had our baby there, and I teach on the lot next door at Joliet West HS. It's a safe neighborhood by all means, although I've never been to that complex before. the only other complexes I've seen didn't look visually appealing at all (one on Larkin, next to Hufford Middle School), and there is also a complex across the street from Joliet West on Larkin.
