I'm a single 27-year-old guy and I'm moving to Chicagoland for a new job. I will work in Rolling Meadows. The closest Metra station to my office is a 15 minute walk, so I would like to drive to work.

My housing budget is $1200/month. Prefer a suburb that's more single-friendly - closer to Rolling Meadows, the better. I would appreciate any tips/insight.

Arlington Heights!

This apt is walking distance to everything the downtown has to offer, including restaurants:
202 N Salem Ave APT 3C, Arlington Heights, IL 60005 is For Rent - Zillow
I just don't know about the parking situation or quality of the other tenants.

I second Arlington Heights. Definitely your best option in the R.M. area...

hmmm, when I went over there to look, I got the impression that it seemed like lower income apartments.

There are definitely some of those to watch out for, even though A.H. is a somewhat upscale suburb. I'd try to see if I could rent someone's condo in the downtown area.

Dunton Towers 55 S Vail, AH. In the heart of downtown AH, couple of blocks from Metra and if you head 1 block north to Campbell and go west you'll be in RM in less than 5 mins.

thanks everyone. gbs, I have looked at Dunton Towers - I heard there is a lot of noise in that area from the bars. Therefore it may be hard to sleep peacefully. Is it true?

Not sure about that, but go see for yourself with windows open and listen for the noise. Live on a higher floor, though you will still hear traffic but it will be less loud if any. Probably get an apartment that does not face Dunton St. or the entrance to the garage (Dont choose to live above it if your concerned about potential noise, nor the garbage area if you see any because that means garbage trucks which are kinda noisy.) Other than that, those apartments are nice - i toured them a few years ago.. pretty nice! modern. Good price for the area and what you get, in my opinion.

if you go across the street to Arlington Heights Road across the tracks you can check out Hancock at Arlington, which seem nice, but the apartment reviews say the church bells across that one street going north can be noisy when they ring - sunday of course, but not sure about any other time of day. but again, you can get an apartment on Arlington Hts Road which is noisier, or one block west which is parklike, so check that one out too, it looked like an excellent place and good price for what you get.

They are what I would consider resturants with a bar so not the type of places that generate noise. They serve a higher class clientele so their customers are just enjoying the evening out in the patio areas with casual conversation. What does generate noise are the summer concerts they have on Thursday and Friday nights by the fountain (Campbell & Vail) but they end around 8:30pm so they don't even carry on late into the night plus it's great free entertainment. It's sort of like living in downtown Chicago without the headaches, always something going on but in a relaxed atmosphere.
