Default Maywood, Illinois

I've read other topics on Maywood since I live here.
It's got a horrible rep.
So I want people to tell me everything they think on it.
Does it have any hope of getting better? Why did it it start getting bad?
How could it get better?

it got bad when the city decided to knock all the projects down. then a ton of section 8 "types" moved to that town and the murder rate doubled.

Although, Maywood has gotten considerably worse since the city projects have come down, it has had many issues for quite some time. In fact, it had a larger prostitution problem in the 80s and 90s before the Cook County Sherrifs had to intervene.

Very interesting. You learn something new every day. Other police forces having to intervene...sounds like the Ford Heights of the western suburbs!

Maywood went to Hell decades before anyone even planned on swinging a wrecking ball at the housing projects.

Maywood's issues are generally in a few neighborhoods. I would buy in Maywood on the north side of town if I still lived in Chicago. The kids would of course not attend Proviso schools. I truly believe Maywood will come back one day. It has a great proximity to downtown, some beautiful old homes and tree lined streets.

That's true, north Maywood is much better. I went to Proviso East, lol.

That school is messed up... You can be absent like 20 times a semester and still pass. Crooked security guards, kids doing crack in the bathrooms, drug dealing, etc.

And what ticked me off most was the students did not show respect. I never understood why, I always wanted to sit through a class and just learn, but people just didn't take it seriously.
