Anyways, back to the original topic. I just relocated from Chicago (grew up in Wheaton/Hinsdale and lived in city) to Charlotte, NC.

People are right, the biggest thing I notice is traffic, and of course weather. Also, costs like higher taxes and toll roads can add up. You said that you sort of drove through Wheaton, I would recommend checking it out, the downtown area is nice. Also, many of the homes there are older but many have been completely rehabbed and there are a LOT of new homes going up there that your wife may like. Downers Grove is another town you may like that is also on the Metra line and has a nice town area (better than Wheaton as far as shops/restaurants go). Both are pricey though compared to North Carolina, so you may encounter sticker shock if you haven't already, lol.
