If you're looking for Chicago-style stuffed pizza, places near the naval base to look into would be Gino's East in Libertyville, Lou Malnati's in Libertyville or Gurnee, or Giordano's in Gurnee. If you want Chicago-style thin crust, I suggest either the aforementioned Giordano's in Gurnee or Quonset in Waukegan.

OMG, my sister used to work at the Quonset in Waukegan during her high school years. HOw I loved it when she would bring home a night's work!

Kaisers in Gurnee. Its great for the whole family. Just south of U.S 41 and RT. 21 (Milwaukee Ave.). You won't be sorry. Its maybe 20 minutes from the base....And its far enough away from Gurnee Mills that that crowd is just us locals. There is also Giordanno's in Gurnee---but that seems a bit like corporate or chain store pizza.

Ferentino's Pizzeria East in downtown Lake Forest is a pretty quick drive south from the Great Lakes Naval Base (about a 15 minute drive tops). I used to deliver pizza there & I highly recommend it. (they also have a West Lake Forest location & a pizzeria called Marco Roma's in Winnetka).
Another decent pizzeria, but competitor to them would be Viccino's Pizza, which has a Libertyville location not too far west of the Great Lakes base. They also have locations in other suburbs further south (ie. Highland Park, Northbrook, Glenview, Northfield, etc.)
Also Lou Malnati's has 3 locations that aren't horribly far from the base:
they would be in Third Lake (listed as a "Grayslake/Gurnee" location), south Libertyville, and West Lake Forest.

Mundelein has the greatest pizza in the world.
Bills Pizza, and Emils Pizza are FANTASTIC.
Wa-pa-ghetis people like, but I never cared for it.
Seriously, Bills pizza is a must, but make sure you go to the original, not Bills Pub North,
