Its kind of ironic that the majority of interracial offspring(black/white) will consider themselves black before white. I have seen this example time and time again- thus emphasizing my point that interracial relationships water down and eliminate European culture.

Your personal life is your business- I won't condemn you or anyone else about your personal decisions. I am no better that anyone else-however- my views are my views and I practice what I preach. I do not condemn you or anyone else- however-I may choose to live my life more of an old school way. My views are not accepted in towns like Oak park- but that is o.k.-there are more towns than you may know where my views are not only accepted, but also respected. You know, I have even gotten respect from some black co workers of mine regarding these issues. Hard to believe? They respect me because I speak from my heart.

Usually a dominant culture does not embrace 'half-castes'. And many Americans are familiar with the 'one-drop' rule, that is, if you had one drop of non-Caucasian blood, then a person was not considered white. Finally, because there have been so many shades of non-whites, people of mixed race have been much more comfortable and were much more readily absorbed in the minority communities than in white areas. So can you blame these folks for considering themselves minorities?

Franco Harris and Roy Campanella are in the Italo-American Sports Hall of fame so they can't be too ashamed of their white forebears. Vin Diesel, Mariah Carey, Carol Channing, and The Rock all have black ancestors but don't dwell on it.

The funniest example of all this occurred in many US whites who claimed some ancestors who were American Indians. Before Loving v. VA struck down laws against interracial marriages, there was a special exemption in VA for claimed descendants of Pocahontas!

European culture in the US is dominant and is not watered-down by interracial marriages. There are many doctoral theses on how the Irish, Italians and Jews went from being minorities to being considered 'white'.

And I truly do not believe that Hispanics are all over Elmhurst. Where are your facts. York High School has such a small population of Hispanics and that info. was just found on school finder.com, which is updated yearly.

I cannot say for certain since I don't live in Elmhurst but I do know that some folks not all but some folks on the 'Right' think that 5 hispanic families that may live in Elmhurst would be too many. You know, its not lilly white enough for them.

Believe it or not I TOTALLY agree with you. I live here because my job is down here and family is here, so I'm kinda stuck. Truth is I love Skokie, Des Plaines, and Park Ridge. I really like the northern burbs as, yes, they are much more liberal and have many more open minded people who really could give a rats ass if two dudes are holding hands at O.O. Mall or if you voted for Barack Obama. Thats how life was for me in Brooklyn. Nobody cared and I loved it. Everyone was too wrapped up in their own lives to care about anyone else. Guess I just love the big city mentality.

Are you joking? Are you really this dense? If you have studied American History at a seventh grade level, you would know about the history of the "one-drop rule" in terms of how Americans have defined the "black race" over the centuries. It typically isn't a choice for those of "mixed-race" ancestry, but is something imposed on them. Do you really think Barack Obama could have passed himself off as "white"? He identified with black kids early on in life because it was apparent to others that he wasn't "white" based on his physical appearance. I can imagine that this was more difficult in Kansas than Hawaii... Since society wants to put everyone into a neat little category, bi-racial kids really struggle with this issue. But it's getting easier as racial classifications get blurred over time.

As far as "diluting European culture" goes, I can see how someone from Elmwood Park, which still has close ties to Italian traditions, might feel this way. But you have to recognize that Elmwood Park is sort of strange in this respect, and is not typical of the condition that most white Americans live in. The old school immigrant enclave is not typical for white Americans anymore. Most of "white America" is such a mix of European ancestry that it has little tie to any old-world European tradition. I personally am a mix of English, German, Danish, Dutch, Slovakian, and Hungarian. My wife is a mix of Irish, Norwegian, French, Dutch, and German. So exactly what ties to European culture does my daughter have, with traceable ancestry to at least nine different countries? And exactly how does mixing Chinese or African ancestry into this millieu dillute any traditions? It's a ridiculous assertion in this day and age.
