Actually, if you control for other data such as poverty, race is not a cause of crime. Correlation does not equal causation. Statistics are not "simple facts" and if you are going to "just look at the numbers" you should probably learn what they actually mean. A basic stats course could help, if that's not possible then some common sense should do the trick.

Most serial killers in this country are white males, so why would you feel safer in an all-white area when your white male neighbor might be another Bundy, Gacy, or Gaskins? I think white males are more likely to be serial killers than other males. Just because minorities move in doesn't automatically mean the crime rate will go up. White flight causes the crime rate to go up.

So is Elmhurst more conservative or liberal? What is their future as the east side of Elmhurst borders Berkeley and Hillside?

I'm from DuPage County (Burr Ridge to be exact). Although DuPage has the reputation of being the "Orange County of the Midwest" in terms of politics, its actually quite varied and changing. Obama actually won the county by 10 points, but we voted for Bush twice by 10 points as well. I'd say the most conservative areas of the county are out West: Wheaton, Warrenville, Naperville, etc. The really expensive/affluent southeast corner of the county (Hinsdale, Burr Ridge, Oak Brook) is pretty conservative as well, although more fiscally than socially, as opposed to the social conservatism you'll find in Wheaton.

I'd honestly rank Elmhurst in the middle.
