That's true. It might be possible to find something built in the past 5 years, but the only new developments are condos.

I would think that most Metra-served suburbs would have some newer townhouse developments near the stops. I know that even good ol' antique Oak Park has new townhouses FAR less than $700K. The night life in Oak Park isn't great in term of boozin' it up (it used to be a dry town), but Forest Park is right there...

One thing to remember about many suburbs is that over-night on-street parking is prohibited. So, if you were counting on long term on-street parking you will be hard pressed, esp. in Oak Park. Their on-street parking is heavily restricted and regulated.

But for downtown Arlington Heights there is this relatively new townhouse:

121 E Sigwalt St, Unit NONE
Arlington Heights, IL 60005
$ 449,900
3 Bedrooms, 3.1 Baths

Berwyn has this along the Metra line, which is about to be completed and go online...

New Century Station / Neighborhood (http://www.newcenturystation.com/neighborhood.html - broken link)

These are not townhomes but they're going to be pretty nice I'm told. I also know the city just did a TRD study and is going to try for more residential development along its Metra corridor, which will include townhomes (though that's probably a few years away given this crap housing market).

OP, If you are looking for that elusive garage space, try this: 7739 W BRYN MAWR Ave, CHICAGO, IL 60631 | MLS# 07104627 5-car garage -- enough room for your vehicle(s) or clear them out and set up your own hockey rink.

Holy carp! The garage is easily larger than the house.

It must have been owned by the Alderman's brother.

Lol I like the indoor hockey rink idea!

Just to clarify... a huge garage isn't a prerequisite, but I was more wondering if there is something began dense urban and sprawling, semi-rural when it comes to new development. The new development is largely for allergy reasons (smoke, cats, etc). Repainting, vent cleaning, and replacing carpets helps a lot, but it adds to the home price.

I will also check out Berwyn. I went out to Arlington Heights -- nice homes, but a little semi-rural for my tastes I suppose.

Age is early 30s, but college area is fine with me. I find college students bring a unique energy to a place, so that is a plus for Evanston.

Thanks again for all the advice!

Also, just wondering the rationale behinds restricting overnight parking. Is it because of snow removal?

I suppose that could be an issue with overnight/long term guests. Normally, not so much, but still a nuisance.

There are townhomes near downtown, but naturally theyre ridiculously expensive. Not too much in the way of "neighborhood bars", but there are TONS of them to choose from in downtown. There are smaller bars all over town, but youd need to drive to them, which isnt probably what youre looking for.
