Hi there
We are a NZ family of five who are moving to Chicago in June 09. My husband is coming to study at the Institute of Design. We have 2 boys who are 16 and 12 and we have been recommended by friends of friends to look into schools in the Lincoln Park Area, or Oak Park areas. I have been researching online into you public school systems and I wondered if anyone could recommend schools in those areas. Also I am coming over late March to find accomodation as well if anyone can suggest a suitable company who deals with rental properties in those areas I would be most grateful. The web is great but it doesnt always give the info needed.
We would be grateful kiwis for any advice...... cheers!

The towns of Riverside and Brookfield share a high school called Riverside Brookfield High School, which is in the top 150 high schools in the U.S. The township of Riverside is very wealthy so I'm sure they have a good middle school, too. There is a train station in Riverside, which is about 11 miles from downtown. There are houses and apartments for rent; try looking at move.com for photos. The neighboring town of Brookfield is more average income and has two train stops. There is a little commercial strip through Brookfield with local businesses. Our middle school is good; local parents seem satisifed. You might want to check the other forum posts about Oak Park or city neighborhoods. Oak Park is a great area with lots of liberal, educated people, but it's right next to a blighted part of Chicago. On the other hand, they have a choice of Metra or CTA trains from Oak Park, which is really quite close to downtown. I hope you enjoy your stay here.

What is your monthly budget for rental property? I can provide you a name of a Realtor to help you in that area.
