Nice areas in Elgin??
Are there any nice areas of Elgin? I noticed a few developments in the early 90's?? These areas have to be better than Streamwood/Hanover right?
Elgin wasn't on our radar but came across a few interesting listings this morning.
Summerhill subdivision?
LITTLE FALLS DR, ELGIN??

Do you need to be in any of those towns? Elgin has some nicer areas but the town as whole doesn't have a good reputation and I would refrain from purchasing there. I would look elsewhere. Where will you be working?

Overall, Elgin's bark is worse than its bite. Still, the thing holding it down is the school district. Apparently the new South Elgin high school is getting some good feedback, but the U-46 district as a whole has a less than stellar reputation. An identical house in the next-door school district (St. Charles) will easily sell for 20% more.

I once went to a party on the far east side of Elgin. I was surprised by how nice the houses/neighborhood was. I can't remember the name of the subdivision. The houses were probably built in th 90's and the lots were very large and wooded. I think it was closer to Hwy 90/Rt. 59 and the Poplar Creek Forest Preserve.
p.s. I have several friends (successful doctors) who have chosen to live in Elgin. There are quite a few good private schools in Elgin as well as magnet High Schools. I'd research this before you rule out the town....

Thanks everyone for the feedback. We are pressed for time and just considering newer homes around the 200k range. We've looked at the good towns such as Hoffman,Schaumburg,Elk Grove,Palatine,Bartlett
But 200k doesn't get you much. Barlett might work but seems isolated being so far SW. I grew up in the NW burbs and now work around EGV/Wood Dale.

That's Cobbler's Crossing. It really is a nice subdivision. I personally avoid subdivisions whenever possible, but because they didn't flatten the whole area and rip out every existing tree, it is among the best in Elgin. Being at the far easten end, it is very close to Hoffman Estates and an easy drive to 90.
