Default moving to chicago...HELP

I am moving to chicago soon, my husband will be working at Loyola medical center in Maywood but we would really like to live in the city. We thought about looking at the west side of town to stay close to 290 for his commute but are now hearing that it maybe a safty issue. If we do live on the west side where should we look? or should we give up on being close to 290 and find something in the city? where should we look? Please Help!

A reverse commuter huh. Well traffic will be a little better, but still 290 is the worst expressway in chicago for commuting. bottlenecks everywhere, entrances and exits into left and right lines, my theory is it was designed by a blind engineer.

That being said you don't have far to go to get to Maywood, so a 40 minute commute is doable.

Look in the West Loop, printers row, south loop, university village. All of these newly gentrified communities have easy access to 290 and are populated by a lot of folks in the medical profession.
