The principal likely has the same information we all have. Wilmette and Glencoe have large Jewish populations, while Winnetka and Kenilworth are much more WASP.

It is similar to the principal at Palatine HS saying that around 1/3 of his students are Hispanic to an inquisitive parent.

I believe the principal did discuss this, and there is nothing that prevents him from discussing it providing it is not in a public forum.

It would have to be conjecture because no data would be available. School do have data on the ethnic makeup of their students. (though it can be inaccurate, there are two NS women I know who always report their children as Pacific Islanders because they think the question is intrusive).

I doubt any principle of a NS public school would be foolish enough to discuss religious makeup with a prospective parent. There are too many fair housing testers out there and statements can be misunderstood.

No principal would ever tell you outright the religious makeup, but they may tell you for example that "Wilmette schools have a sizable population of children that come from Latter-day Saint (Mormon) or Baha'i families," but one could figure this out on their own as the largest Latter-day Saint ward in Illinois is located in Wilmette and the oldest Baha'i Temple is located in Wilmette. It is relatively easy to guess the religious makeup, but I don't know why that is a concern unless you are a bigot.

Exactly! Religion isn't taught in the public schools. I don't understand why anyone would even ask the question and I know that a public school principal would try to avoid answering it. They might give census data, but they wouldn't even be able to say 20% of our kids are jewish. There is absolutely no data available which shows public students religions.

chitown85 is on a distinguished road
The Jewish Federation sometimes puts out estimates for various municipalities. After the 2000 census, they said they estimate 88,000 residents of Chicago are Jewish. They also estimate that about 30% of Skokie's population is Jewish.

The entire Chicagoland Jewish community is between 250,000 and 300,000.
