Obviously, Illinois is not like other states. In most places, if you don't like what's going on in politics, you can always try to vote that person out in the next election. Just like China and Cuba, though, we don't have that right in Illinois. Our elections are shams because the machine picks the winning candidate well ahead of time, and once they are in office they are almost always there for life.
Our tax dollars go primarily to support patronage jobs, no bid contracts and other forms of corruption. This is pretty obvious when you notice that are schools are broke, our roads are nothing but potholes, etc., despite ever increasing taxes. And yes, I know Illinois taxes are about average. That's not the issue. The issue is our money is being STOLEN from us to pay for corruption, and there is NOTHING we can do about it, short of moving out of state.
There are some less healthy ways to cope, such as today when I went to vote and yelled at a campaign staffer for one of my towns mayoral candidates. Of course, I think this is probably justified because of the fact that this candidate is affiliated with the Chicago machine, and that the last thing we need in charge.
It just gets so frustrating knowing that not only do I not like what is happening, but there is absolutely nothing to be done about it, despite the fact that this is, allegedly, a "democracy".
#1 taxes #2 jobs - used to be that there were jobs here - no more. All the big corps still here hire H1Bs anyway. #3 terrible road conditions and traffic #4 ridiculous gun laws that do nothing to stop gangbangers #4 it is turning into the state of chicago... #5 the county we live in their zoning is really bad and it profoundly affects quality of life for many of us here.
it goes on and on. Maybe once they get some blagovites out of the govt. it will improve.
South Carolina will never buckle under that power. There are not enough Dems down here to make it happen.
Totally agree; we came up with about 100 reasons when we left Chicago. Some might not matter to you but to us they did. Good luck.
Funny, I can think of 100 reasons to NEVER live in SC.
And if you think SC will be immune to the brainless, invading Democrats, think again. As the Sunbelt grows in popularity, youll get swarmed with ex-Chicagoans, ex-New Yorkers, Bostonians, etc, etc, that will come down and bring their DemoCRAP with them. Trust me on that. Pretty soon youll be like Chicago and IL in all our Democrap misery. Here is what I see in SC's near future: YouTube - Night of the Living Democrats
You know, I hate to ruin a good rant, but I have a tiny shred of hope now. The incumbent mayor, who is NOT affiliated with the Chicago machine, won by a landslide.
This thread is completely filled with ridiculous exagerations. Sure, we have problems with our political system in Illinois, but comparing us to Cuba and China and calling for armed revolution is just ludicrous. And our tax burden in Illinois is pretty average (either 22 or 30 of 50 states according to two recent pulished sources). Get a grip, people. This kind of rhetoric makes you sound like nut jobs.
That said, let's make sure we get rid of Pat Quinn and Todd Stroger in the next election, and let's repeal their burdonesome tax raises.
