It's not black males, by the way. It's black male teenagers. I think teenagers of all races show a great deal of disrespect and don't know their place. Blacks strike me as worse than other groups.

How so??? And can I get someone to answer my initial questions--I'd be glad to talk about race issues in America in another forum or other. But I will ask, since you are being vague--what specfic experiences are you referring too, and if they were with white teenagers would you have issues against your own race?

well, put 2 and 2 together. Homewood-Flossmoor is becoming more of a certain kind of group then you have test scores drop plus other things...

Yeah, this is probably not the right forum to psychoanalyze me or even discuss this in great depth. Some other place and time.
Really, though, I've yet to meet the person that deserves to be on a high horse regarding prejudices. I'm sure you have your own to deal with.
Regarding Flossmoor -- it is VERY nice, and I know quite a few people who still live there and have nothing negative to say about it. I hear mixed reviews of H-F high school, but I think it's clear that it's not as good as it was 15 years ago. Flossmoor used to be the favorite choice of U of C faculty who didn't have a stomach for Hyde Park, and many still live there. However I can say with certainty that realtors are no longer steering new faculty in that direction.
The surrounding areas can be pretty rough, but that can be said about quite a few nice neighborhoods.

i am not afraid of black males
Physically, I am stronger, faster, and bigger than most males, black or otherwise at 6'2, 190 lbs, competitive ruinner and basketball player (can still two hand dunk at 31 years old).
What I am afraid of is thugs with guns.
I have lived around blacks and hispanics for the past 3 years.
Grownazz man or not you will not win if the teenage punk has a gun or is in a large group.
The 4 black males who robbed me were armed with handguns. You would not have won that fight. Btw, I was ever more fit then, member of university rowing team and qualified for US Nationals. Despite all your tough talk you would have been robbed just the same as me or worse shot and killed.

Perhaps. But then again white or Black, at certain hours, and regardless of neighborhood, the night belongs to those thugs of which you speak. It’s unfortunate you had some bad experiences—but to be honest, in the case of St. Louis, it proably was a crime of opportunity—and you just happened to be there...So where do you suggest one live in IL? At the end of the day I’m just looking to be surrounded by intelligent, open-minded people, who can see past their individual issues and other—do you know of such a place? FYI. I’ve read this board for years before becoming a member, and it seems that the court is VERY divided on this subject.

This is true, when I first moved to Chicago they said to stay clear of LakeView, now it seems to be certified HOT. In regards to our other topic, Beverly is actually our first choice however, we aren’t finding the size dwelling we’d like for the price we want to spend. FYI. I just killed a deal to purchase a building there--the seller started “acting up” due to her finances, or lack thereof. Also wasn't trying to offend, with last comment, I asked the question about your kids because given the fact that you are somewhat uptight about, some blacks, I was wondering if you let your feelings filter to them, as is sometimes the case. (FYI. We are experincing this now with our daughter, and lack of invites to parties and other), and so diversity is very important to us. No worries here, and again my apoligizes if you took comments the wrong way. Lastly I agree with Hyde Park being somewhat suspect--a far cry from what it use to be.

If you find yourself in Beverly go talk to the owner of the Blue Moon Cafe' on 99th and Wood. She reluctantly recently moved from beverly to Homewood because of the public schools (and she couldn't get her daughter into Barnabas for whatever reason). She can do a good comparison of the neighborhoods. I know she really misses Beverly but recognizes that H-F high school is much better than Morgan Park. She says Homewood is very nice. She is white by the way.

Look east -- Prospect Avenue e.g. in east beverly has some very large homes on triple and quadruple lots for pretty reasonable prices now. I know a few houses on wood that are in very good shape for around 300K (though not that big, but with large yards). These prices are much better than a few years ago. Up the hill if you want anything in good shape of reasonable size you're starting closer to 500. 400 if it needs work.
