Im looking to buy a house and I will be a single-mother. I want a nice area with good elementary schools. I have heard mixed things about Romeoville. I would really like to know if it's a good place to live (i.e. safe, strong future outlook, good school system, etc.) I am a white female so I would prefer a place that isnt too overly diverse. Sorry but safety is a huge concern, for both myself and my child. Please let me know what you think. thank you!

romeoville would be a good place. it is kind of diverse but is at least 60% white.

Try 75% white.

In my opinion, when I was a kid growing up in the area, it didn't have a great reputation, but I think it's developing positively. It has become more diverse, I mean, it you want to live in a predominantly white community, then try Downers Grove or Naperville. But those two towns aren't probably as affordable as Romeoville as far as home prices. I lived in neighboring Woodridge and Bolingbrook before I left Illinois for Florida, but now I'm moving back from Florida in a few years, and plan to settle in Romeoville.

There are more improvements happening in Romeoville, they are developing Naperville road in the Hampton Park area, and 135th near the middle school is getting an uplift as well that will help provide services for the community. Hampton Park sub-division is the oldest section and is becoming more diverse as the original owners move on, but it is still a safe and clean area.

Are you considering Romeoville because of work? Just wondering, because Manhattan offers a great community that seems to fit your criteria regarding safety and good schools. There are some great newer homes in good subdivisions with young families and a good sense of community.

And you could impress people by telling them you live in Manhattan (while conveniently leaving off the "Illinois").

Yep! Actually, I have only been to the "other" Manhattan once. Not exactly an apples to apples comparison, but it sounds good I suppose.

Manhattan is WAY the other side of Joliet, the true boonies. From Romeo you can still get into the city pretty easily and also have access to good shopping in northern Will and DuPage counties.

I feel very positive to live in Romeoville. I have my grandkids growing up in the town.
