Tinley Park's Brookside Glen???
Hello, my husband and I were thinking of purchasing a home in the Brookside Glen area of Tinley Park. Does anyone have any information about the neighborhood make-up or any "urban influences" that might be happening in this area? Thanks!

Brookside Glen is really Frankfort Square which is unincorporated. This means that, yes, Brookside Glen is officially Tinley Park but they really invaded "The Square" about 10 years ago and annexed the land which many would call north Frankfort Square (the part that borders 191st). Since Frankfort Square is unincoprorated, many towns find it easy to move in and take land near it without any problems, such as what Tinley Park did. They were able to head south and east of Mokena and north of Frankfort Square and nab that land for "Brookside Glen."
I would say there are not your typical urban influences in this area. However, your children will attend Lincoln Way North which has more urban influences (due to it taking in kids from cook county on the other side of Harlem Avenue) than the other Lincoln Way schools do. However, I still think it would be a fine place to live.

The information posted above by "at1withnature" is not correct. Speaking specifically of "urban influences" the school district which runs the Lincoln Way Schools, Lincoln Way North does not take children from the "other" side of Harlem Avenue. To some people that may be a fortunate circumstance, since there are negatgive connotations associated with the urban influences comment. To our family, who reside in Brookside Glen and have children in the LW district, people are people no matter where you go and however you may charecterize or stereotype them, we are the same, regardless of how "urban" we may seem.

Uh, yes they do. You just classify it differently than most people of the Lincoln Way community do. In fact, you are from Tinley which represents a very tiny amount of the Lincoln Way community. I would guess about 2% compared to Frankfort, Manhattan, Mokena, New Lenox, etc. What do you think Lincoln Way North was built right on Harlem Avenue yet they don't accept any students from across the street? And even if they don't, North has more "urban" students than any of the other Lincoln Ways. There are racial tensions at Lincoln Way North compared to the other Lincoln Ways. Lincoln Way North is certainly the have not of all the Lincoln Ways. That's why North has Frankfort Square and Arbury Hills aka the cheapest areas to live in the Lincoln Way district.

Hello...our family has been residing in a Bookside Glen neighborhood, located just west of Harlem and 191st Street, in Will County, Tinley Park.
You will find that Brooksideglen.org will give you most of the information you need.
We have moved from WA, OR, AZ, and now here over the past 15 years and find this area a mix of nice people, affordable housing, and good amenities. We have teenagers at Lincoln Way North and are very happy with the quality of education. Though we would like to see more "urban" influence, mix of cultures and races; there is predominantly white students in the boundaries attending this school. Best of Luck to you.

Hello All...Just a simple clarification needed to keep information accurate on this blog. The school boundary for Lincoln Way North HS is West of Harlem and in Will County; therefore, it does not take in kids from cook county on the other side of Harlem.

heartnsoul, I don't think you can prove that. Can you?
There are racial tensions at Lincoln Way North due to the black kids entering that school district when they never have before.

At1WithNature, Do you have a problem with people that are black? Or is the problem with Tinley Park? Are you from here? From what personal perspective are you coming from? What is your hidden agenda? You do not speak truth.
For others reading this blog, to obtain accurate information on school boundaries, log onto the Lincoln Way School District web site.
Lincoln Way North is a new school in the district and has only been open since August of 2008. The school does not have much "racial diversity," if that is a preference to you as a parent. It does have good academics, plenty of activities, athletics, etc. Best of luck.

I know more about Lincoln Way than you do, trust. I just know the facts. Lincoln Way North has more blacks than the other Lincoln Ways and there weren't blacks in Lincoln Way 10-15 years ago. Maybe 1 or 2 out of one thousand. Now that there is more, there are racial tensions and issues. This is going on at North. It is not occuring at East or Central. I'm just giving you the facts, you don't have to agree with them. Besides, remember Tinley only represents about 2% of the Lincoln Way population. So, Brookside Glen really only represents a tiny fraction of the Lincoln Way scene. And that goes for the demographics as well as the environment.
If the school did have "racial diversity" it would not be as good of a school and the test scores would suffer.
