Okay, I was confused.
The Most Prestigeous suburbs would be (no particular order) Lake Forest, Mettawa, Bannockburn, Barrington Hills, Highland Park, Glencoe, Kenilworth, Wilmette, Winnetka, Hinsdale.
I would find it impossible to narrow it down to 5 because there are just too many.
Also Prestigous:
Lake Bluff, South Barrington, Riverwoods, Evanston, River Forest, Inverness, Oak Park,
There are more, but this would be my list.

It depends on what you're comparing it to. Evanston & Oak Park are quite prestigious compared to some parts of Chicagoland. The architecture is beautiful, incomes are quite high, housing values are also high. Oak Park/Evanston also have a certain intellectual/liberal cool factor.
Its apples and oranges really. Someone who likes BarringtonHils/Mettawa/ Bannockburn (Oh and Wayne) isnt going to love Oak Park or Evanston. But they are all very prestigious places to live.

Prestige is in the eye of the beholder. I've also discovered the true value of prestige: Prestige + $2.25 gets you on the CTA.

Most Prestigious:
1.) Kenilworth
2.) Glencoe
3.) Winnetka
4.) Highland Park
5.) Lake Forest
Worst:
1.) Harvey
2.) Maywood
3.) Aurora
4.) Ford Heights
5.) Calumet City
Lists are in no particular order, except I think Kenilworth is number one on the first list.

la salle county where i live- is on the top five of least educated areas in the country. i did not know that when i moved here but boy do i know it now ! no one knows what i am taking about half the time . there is simply little enough here to draw comparison to .
i like to visit naperville and cruise the river walk . i don't want to live there it is too yuppie for me , nonetheless, it is a very nice area and has many things to offer.
