I can't seem to find any opinions on Oakbrook Terrace in these forums. Can anyone tell me anything about it?
I'm not from the area and will be working in Willowbrook/Burr Ridge area. I need to rent for the moment and have found that there seem to be more places to rent in the Oakbrook Terrace area than other places, like Hinsdale, Western Springs or La Grange. I like the more upscale communities. Would Oakbrook Terrace fit? Also, are there other nearby areas that are good for renters? Since my work will be so far out, I gather it isn't a good idea to try to find a place in the areas normally suggested for single professional (Lincoln Park, etc). Is there a place in the Western burbs that would be good for a single female professional who hopes to have a social life...keeping in mind that I need to be in Willowbrook five days a week? |

LaGrange is a great location, especially for your work and has a downtown area that appeals to young professionals and families alike. This would be my choice. Parking is a premium in LaGrange's dowtown area so try to find a place with parking if you are looking right in the downtown area. Elmhurst also has a nice dowtown area with pubs, shops, restaurants and a college right in the center of town. Hinsdale's downtown area is very beautiful, very upscale but not very happening for the single set, ditto for Western Springs. Lisle's Four Lakes has always been a draw to young single professionals in the Western Suburbs. If you opt for Lisle, try to rent one of the condos in Four Lakes, they usually have great rates and include in-unit washer/dryers. I have a number of friends who lived in the same complex in OakBrook Terrace (Versailles). OBT has all the retail stores you could ever want within a mile, restaurants galore and bars too. I think that if you are looking for a word for OBT it would be corporate, not upscale. But it might be a great fit for you.
