We currently live in the city with two small children and are hoping to make a move to the burbs soon. We're looking at Glenview and I would like to know more about the various neighborhoods...Glen Oak Acres, Glen Ayre (sp?), the Circles (and what ARE the Circles?). What's it like to raise kids in these neighborhoods? I drove through today (beautiful, sunny Saturday) and didn't see too many kids out playing. And what about the lack of sidewalks?

Glenview is a nice town, but honestly, I don't like the lack of sidewalks either. Some villages in an effort to save money, didn't put them in, further pushing the "car culture". I could not live somewhere without them. I like to walk too much.

If you are looking at that price point why are you limiting yourself to Glenview?

Okay, more on this...We're not limited to Glenview...just seem to like that the most. We've looked extensively at Wilmette as well. We like Wilmette, but to be honest, I'm a little intimidated by New Trier due to hyper-competitiveness. We're 99% sure we want to move north (my husband works downtown). We've considered Evanston, but there are such mixed reviews on the schools and the taxes are high (we'd almost be better off staying where we are in the city). We want a little more space, but something with a cute town/business district and a place that's walkable, good for kids, good park district/activities, etc. I'd love access to a forest preserve/bike trails, etc. Park Ridge was also in the running, but I didn't find it all that appealing. Any thoughts would be most appreciated! Thank you!

Default Glenview and sidewalks

The lack of sidewalks is a big deal here in Glenview--I think like 40% of the residential streets don't have sidewalks. We moved 2 years ago from the city and didn't even really notice/think about it. We live 1/2 a block from the school but most parent's drive because its too busy to walk in the street during drop-off and pick up. So sad. There is a group of us trying to get the village to put in sidewalks --which they will do and pay for but you must show homeowner support. Being anti-sidewalk is a thing here!! We're in eastern Glenview in the New Trier Township (feeder district to New Trier.)
