Police: Driver stopped after fatal accident :: News :: PIONEER PRESS :: The Doings LaGrange (http://www.pioneerlocal.com/lagrange/news/1582995,lg-cookupdate-052009-s1.article - broken link)

Sounds like the driver of the car that caused the fatal injuries to the pedestrian was avoiding another careless driver.

Red light camera won't do much to prevent these sorts of incidents. Neither will radar speed enforcement, a nice visible police force that routinely patrols busier corridors in mostly residential areas are the smart way to prevent this sort of thing...

I've been in that situation raising stroller wheels up to a curb with oncoming cars, and it can be scary. What a sad event for that family! People really need to slow down.

Thats awful. My heart goes out to that poor family. Sad. Truly sad.

Drivers in IL are the absolute WORST. Not a single day goes by where I dont have to yell at someone for driving like complete arse. Idiots!!!!!!!!

How sad. I don't understand what happened, though. Was this woman jaywalking with her kids?

That section of 47th street may not all have curb cuts. It is possible she was just do the "tilt and lift" to get on the sidewalk from a legal crossing...

Very unfortunate. I have no idea how many such accidents happen in the region, but whenever a pedestrian is hurt / killed and the driver appears to have been mostly OK (as a second driver apparently was in her lane) it really does speak to just how close to disaster any driver can be...
