Kiddieland in Melrose Park
I want to take my niece to Kiddieland ( Kiddieland Amusement Park - Melrose Park Illinois) this weekend to see Dora The Explorer. I know it's just some guy in a costume, but just like any other 3 year old, she's crazy about Dora. Anyway, a few people (who, by the way have never been there) told me that the area it's in is ghetto and the park itself is a complete craphole. I tried looking up reviews on the internet, but the most recent one is from 2007.
Has anyone been there recently and can share their experience? I don't want to take her someplace where I won't feel she's safe. Thanks!

Wow this is quite odd, I actually just posted about this in the Chicago forum, the park is closing and this is its last season. So if you are going to go, go now.

People who think Melrose Park is the ghetto need to get a life. It's not the nicest suburb of the bunch, but come on!

I would have no problem going there now. In fact, I will more than likely go this year before it closes to say goodbye and remember my childhood.

I bring the kids a few times a year. It is a real throwback and not particularly spiffy, but we all love it. My oldest starting crying when she heard news of closing on radio.
There is no ghetto issue at all. People really need to get a grip.

I've taken my kids there and its a good time. Like others have posted, maybe not the nicest suburb, but I had no concerns driving there.
