Smile First Time Homebuyer Looking in Westmont

Hi,

I am 29 and my wife is 27. We currently live in Oak Park but want to take the plunge and own our own town home.

One area that we seem to like is Westmont. We can get a very nice town home in our price range ((210K to 240K)) some off of Crab Tree Drive and some off of Peach Tree Drive).

We like Westmont because it is close to Downers Grove and pretty close to Oakbook/York Town.

What does everyone think of Westmont for a young couple?

Thanks for the help!

Brian

I like Westmont a lot in that price range, I agree that the distance to both the shopping and employment base of the Oak Brook and York Town is excellent.

I would really prefer to see you in a single family home. I know you might not get as nicely a finished place at that price, but the potential for appreciation is much greater. You would also probably have space that would appeal to a wider range of buyers down the road. The possibilities for renovation / addition to suit your changing needs are also greater.

Some of this is driven by your age and your future life plans, but the truth is that townhomes in the price range you are considering are not in high demand except for those with first floor master bedrooms, as then the downsizing empty nesters are eager for them.

Why rent when you can own or invest? (504727)
