Default Parents get shut out of graduation

Parents barred from graduation - Chicago Breaking News

I had to have a little chuckle at this because something similar happened when I graduated. We were all given 8 tickets and that was IT. if you didn't have a ticket, you didn't come in. Well, of course there were a bunch of people that didn't have the tickets, or were coming in late, so they cried and called the news about it.

The rest of us that knew how to get there on time/gave out our tickets like we were supposed to were ashamed that our school got put on the news because some people think they can have the rules bent for them.

That's so sad....

I attended 2 middle school graduations last week in 2 different suburbs. One was a nice, calm, heartwarming event. The parents and students were respectful and an amazing amount of student talent was displayed.

The other graduation was, IMO, an embarrassment. IMO, the parents ruined the event. Half of them were standing at their seats (ruining the view for everyone else behind them) and constantly whistling/screaming their kids' names (even though they were told often by the principal to stop). They were pushing through other adults (including elderly people) to get to the front, etc. There was little recognition for individual student accomplishments other than a few scholarships (I didn't even know they gave out scholarships to 8th graders.... I'm so out of it).

After the ceremony, they gave the kids dozens of huge balloons, expensive electronic gifts, etc. and some were picked up by limos. C'mon this was middle school graduation.... What will they do for High School? My friend thinks maybe these kids may not graduate HS and that's why the MS graduation is so over-the-top. Quite an eye-opening experience...
