North Chicago/Waukegan-Please help (Gurnee, Libertyville: apartments, for rent, condos)

Are there any areas in the above locations where it's safe to live? I'm a single parent with a 10 year old daughter. I'm looking to rent in the $800ish/month range.

Western Waukegan is safe. Forget about North Chicago. Apartments for Rent and Homes for Rent and search 60085. Go and visit the complexes.

I would be very careful some neighborhoods are really scary. Don't you have other options? Gurnee perhaps. My son taught school out there and the school couldn;t even afford to buy books or notebooks
So he would have to xerox pages from his own books for them to use! There are inexpensive apartments in tons of better locations.

Agree with LakeCountyLifer. Western Waukegan is pretty safe. Downtown is eventually going to be revitalized.

Consider Park City. You can buy a used mobile for less than $10K; the lot rent will run $500-600/month. The town is very safe; we have an excellent police department who run out the riff-raff. Half the town is in Waukegan Township (and schools), the other in Warren (same as Gurnee). Teske Blvd. is the divider.

Agree about staying away from North Chicago. I have a friend that lives in western Waukegan (Gurnee schools) and she likes it. She has a 2 year old and one on the way.

I live in North Chicago. I'm on the 1800 block of Glenn Drive. Our block is a fairly decent block. Even our bad parts have improved greatly over the past few years. I feel much safer.

Housing over by Greenbay school is pretty good and so is the housing over by the former Gillette plant off Pulaski. The apartments, townhomes, and condos off Waukegan across from Abbott are worth looking at too. Even though it's considered North Chicago, the people there don't pay taxes to the city nor send their children to North Chicago Schools. I believe their taxes and children go to Libertyville. So yes, North Chicago does have it's good parts despite what anyone may say about us.
