Default Buffalo grove

I am considering a position in Buffalo Grove. Could someone please advise the best apartments in the $1000-$1100 price range (or lower)? I would also like any information on the subway and if there are apartments in walking distance? I lived in Washington DC 3 years ago and loved the subway setup.

Buffalo Grove is suburban. No subway system and not densely built so walking to shops and restaurants is unlikely. There is commuter rail service to downtown Chicago. Decent suburb with excellent schools and many families. I suggest you investigate Arlington Heights. It has a decent (by suburban standards) downtown that has restaurants, cafes, stores, live theater and movie theater all in walking distance. There are rentals that should fit your budget.

If you want to live in between BG and the city, check out Des Plaines (close to the north side areas of Chicago). For more urban, choose downtown Arlington Heights or Schaumburg.

Thanks for the replies. How far is Arlington Heights from BG and how long is the commute? I would be working on E Lake Cook.

Arlington Heights borders Buffalo Grove to the south. AH is a very long burb north to south. Lake Cook is one of the dividing lines between AH and BG. Depending on the time you need to arrive at work and where in AH you live, you could be looking at anywhere from 2 minutes to 30.

Are you looking at specific apartment complexes?

I have browsed at a couple of places, but I haven't given it much thought since I don't know anything about the streets there.

Which apartments would be recommended? I would like to either be very close to the job or very close to shopping and movie theaters. Also would like to be close to a college.

The NW suburbs are nothing like the DC metropolitan area.

You need a car to survive in this area.

I would look in downtown Arlington Heights for the most " walk to" places but you will need a car to get to/from work. There is also a metra to downtown Chicago, here.

Closest school is Harper Junior College, in Palatine. Roosevelt has an extention campu in Schaumburg. Again, you need a car.

Roosevelt University also has a campus in Schaumburg, which is very close to Arlington Heights. Olivet Nazarene is a private college located in Rolling Meadows, which borders AH. A car is a necessity in the NW burbs. Downtown AH is your best bet for an urban lifestyle in the NW suburbs.

Thanks for the info. I have several cars...just hate dealing with traffic. I was getting the "Metra" mixed up with a regular subway system so I know that driving and dealing with traffic will be the norm. Being able to catch the Metro in DC to different parts of the city and walk to dine, movies, etc was very nice.

Does anyone have any recommendations as far as apartments? Also, is there corp temporary housing available that offer monthly rates in case I want to shop around? I found an Extended Stay America, but they do not offer a monthly rate.

There is an Extended Stay in Buffalo Grove on Milwaukee Avenue at Deerfield Road. There is also another apartment style extended stay option on Deerfield Road and Aptakisic Road in Buffalo Grove (used to be called Amli).

Some of the apartment complexes in the area might do short term leasing. On Lake Cook Road, at the connection with Route 53, there is a complex in unincorporated Arlington Heights where it intersects with Palatine that does short term leasing.
