Just out of curiosity what do you guys think are arguably the most environmentally conscious towns outside Chicago?

(by environmentally conscious I mean recycling, solar energy, hybrid cars, ect.)

Do you mean throughout the country or just the suburbs of Chicago?

If you mean throughout the country, Boston is very green. The city-provided recycling bin at my old house was 64 gallon size with wheels. Every house had one. They're also one of the first cities to have "Smart Cars," basically cars parked around the city that members could use whenever they needed. Also any time a new building went up, a big concern was that it be LEED certified.

The Village of Barrington is green as it relates to recycling. We have had the jumbo bins for years.

I do not see too many hybrid cars, though. It's still all about the SUV.

What in the world do you have against hybrids?? I don't get it.

I could maybe understand possibly not liking the arrogance that hybrid drivers might have, but I mean come on!! Id doesn't take a flaming left wing tree hugger to know that we need to conserve our resources for many reasons.

I'd probably go with a liberal bastion like Oak Park or Evanston in this regard. A friend of mine in Oak Park was actually afraid she might be scorned by the neighbors if she didn't participate in the "Earth Hour" lights out stuff.

I understand that trying to "live green" presents a certain level of inconvenience, but people like Steve-o are so threatened by this that they bury their heads in the sand. Sorry Steve-o, but you are on the wrong side of history here. You might as well be saying the earth is flat or defending the institution of slavery.

Heard on the news today that Arlington Heights is spending $400k+ to replace street lights in the dowtown area with something or another more green.
