Default From Crystal Lake to Des Plaines

My husband and I are looking to move from Crystal Lake to Des Plaines. Specifically we are looking at a complex on Beau Dr (near 83/Elmhurst and Dempster between Alongquin and Golf). I can't tell if I've been spoiled by Crystal Lake or not, but I am a little worried about moving to the area. I've done quite a bit of research about the city of Des Plaines, but I'd love it if anyone with knowledge of that neighborhood could let me know if I should feel safe being home alone at night with a new baby since my husband is often gone overnight.

DesPlaines has no real crime issues in the residential sections of single family homes. The apartment complexes sometimes get domestic calls, and there is more car theft and even some low level drug / vice stuff, but that is confined to the transient nature of the stuff by the airport...

They have done a pretty good job with their downtown renewal and things are mostly looking up, as there is a better mix of residents than just a few years ago.

Have you driven through the complex and the adjacent area? Not the worst, but not an area I would move into either. Too many apartment complexes in that area.

I've lived in Des Plaines for a little over 2 years now-- my husband is a Des Plaines Police Officer so I'm also home alone at night at times and I can tell you I've never had issues or safety problems. The nice thing too is that I live in a secure building, which helps a lot for piece of mind. But he's said we don't have a lot of crime in our neighborhood at all, and from what I can see, that seems to very much be the case. I don't know about the neighborhood you're specifically asking about as I'm not familiar with all of Des Plaines, but I've really enjoyed living here. We are planning to move soon though to be closer to his parents. If you haven't purchased yet and are still looking for a good DP area with secure condos, let me know if you'd like me to send you a link to view our place.
Best wishes and good luck on the move!
