Default How is it going there?

I had this in the Chicago thread, but was told it might be better here.So...........

HI, we are seriously thinking about a move to Chicago, when i do not know. We are in Denver right now, work is very scarce. What is it like there/ how is the economy there? My husband is in Commercial or residential construction(management or carpenter he doesn't care)and I am going to school for Medical office billing and coding. We have kids. We would love to know where we should look as far as a place to live. When are kids are gone we will do the urban living, but for now we need, cool town, good schools and low crime. We like older homes and lots of trees. Thanks for any info you can give me

I have to tell you that every time we visit Colorado I ask the same question "now tell me why we live in flat old Illinois". LOL. I can't believe you want to trade the gorgeous state of Colorado for Illinois. With that said, there is plenty of wonderful areas you can choose and budget constraints will limit your choices.

Right now construction is really hurting, not sure if it will be easy for your husband to find work. If he is not union it will really limit his chances, as this is a union state and very democratic.

Wish you luck in your pursuit and hope that you will not take my post as negative.

I love Colorado, but Denver is small and no real towns surrounding it, a few but they are small as well and there is no mountain work. He is in the union actually, union Carpenter, he is a foreman. Illinois has it beauty as as well, just different.

Uhhh, make that Colorado from Denver and West. From Denver to the East, IL, IMO, has much better scenery. Ever been through Eastern Colorado?

Secure a job, first.

Where you live, anywhere is determined by renting or buying and how much you can afford.

Right now there is probably quite a bit of unemployment in Illinois. Chicago would be your best best for union work, have your husband check with the local union hall.

Good luck!!
