Default Recent Retirees - Palatine, Mt. Prospect, Arlington Heights

We are retired and moving to Chicago to be closer to family. Our daughter lives in Irving Park (the Villa) and we would like to be accessible via their train link to Palatine, Mt. Prospect, or Arlington Heights (for us to travel down to see them and for them to visit us).

We have traveled on a housing trip recently and like the homes in Palatine, but would also consider other areas along the train line.

For retirees, which area would be the best for us and have the best resources nearby? We want a house that is one floor (since my husband is in a wheelchair) or at the very least a first floor master. We like the suburbs because we are used to a little more space both in the home and outside the home. Our price range is between $500K and $600K.

It is hard to compare the personalities of the different areas on the web, so any help would be appreciated.

There are some newer condos and townhomes that might serve you well near downtown Mt Prospect, as well as downtown Arlington Heights or nearby places like Park Ridge and DesPlaines.

Single family homes that are older one story may not really be suitable for a wheel chair and anything that has a first floor master and is newer is going to be very pricey in those areas...

I am thinking a larger ranch, with a ramp might be OK.

Here are some areas to consider:

Country Club in Mount Prospect

Scarsdale in Arlington Heights

Creekside in Rolling Meadows

Forest Estates in Palatine

Fox Point in the Village of Barrington

Wyngate in the Village of Barrington

Westwood in the Village of Barrington

Biltmore in North Barrington

If you don't mind driving to and from the Arlington Heights train station, Lake Arlington Towne might be worth considering.
Mixed development of townhomes and single family homes. Mixed age groups also. Lots of families, singles and retirees. The retirees and their kids enjoy the association's swimming pools. There are single story townhomes with first floor master suites, guest bedroom, living, dining, kitchen and sunroom-den with 2 car attached garage. My guestimate is they would be lisitng in the mid 300's?
