A couple of questions about the aforementioned topic:

1. Can anyone recommend reputable contractors in the northern suburbs?
2. Has anyone done over a MBR? How much does a higher-end makeover cost?

What are you planning on doing that requires a contractor?

Tossing around the idea of making over the MBR ( new shower, new jacuzzi tub, etc.) Any ideas of cost or GCs?

We are currently redoing our bathroom in Gurnee. The company is Landmark Homes - Expert Renovations. We are ripping out our huge jacuzzi and old shower, replacing with soaker tub, larger tiled shower, new tile on the floor, new taller vanity with marble top, new faucets, new mirror, new white trim around doors and floor, new paint on walls, and a new toilet. Our cost is just under $18k. I hope that helps.

Recently re-did our master bathroom replacing tiling, installing multiple jets, granite countertops and custom cabinetry in the walk in closets. The price tag came in around 20 grand - keep in mind the cabinetry was almost 8 grand.

Renovation does not come cheap.

How about if we don't install a jacuzzi and just replace tub, remove tile, re-tile and add a new vanity and some lights? Any guesses on cost? We just want to update what we have to new and simple design.....not create a masterpiece.

2 years ago re-did walk in shower tiles, tiles around soaker/whirlpool tub and replaced carpet with tiles. Added new faucets and cabinet handles/pulls. Left tub and counter alone and touched up and re-varnished existing cabinets. Re-did paint and removed existing tiles ourselves, everything else via outside tile contractors. Cost between $6-8K. Replacing tub and cabinets and counter would have added about $4-6K. You can avoid GC by using recommended tiles installers from place you buy tiles (We used Century Tile) and place you buy cabinets and counter (home Depot when we did downstairs 1/2 bath)

Cool. Wonder what it would have added to have the tile guys remove the tile too? Any idea?

Fuzzy memory, but I think it was somewhere in the $150-$350 range.
