Default CNN/Money Magazine labels Western Srpings "playground of the rich"

Very poorly research article, but fun to ridicule:

6-figure towns - Western Springs, IL (5) - Money Magazine

Western Springs is a great little town. But the playground for the rich? If you consider joining The Village Club, participating in potlucks and being in Coterie the playground lifestyle, well, um, okay?

LOL, so true. When I think "playground for the rich" anywhere around here that would resemble that glamorous NYC / Beverly Hills / Miami Beach urban, affluent, fashionista type of vibe, I automatically think of the Gold Coast neighborhood in Chicago along with the nearby River North area.

Western Springs just seems flat out too suburban & bland to truly be considered a playground (and to me, so would a Lake Forest, or a Barrington, Winnetka, or Hinsdale for that matter). I'd say these are great towns for raising families though if you have the money, and can deal with the "keep up with the CEO Jones's" thing.

The median household income in Western Springs is only $139,758? That just shows that home values are still much too high in that town (mean detached home price of $596,248 in 2007). As the homeowners age, it will be harder and harder to bring in younger homeowners at the bottom to replace them. Are there a lot of retired people in Western Springs or something? That would bring the median income down.

LK:

I think you understand that very few people report to the Census Bureau the actual numbers that they have on their IRS forms. Further a lot of the "gross income" that people in a certain point in the lives might have is very different than the net income that they'll pay taxes...

Let's also not forget that 'wealth' and income are related but in a far more complex way than can be easily deduced from statistics.

Let's also not forget that mommy and daddy helped a lot of those Western Springs folks buy their houses.

I'd like to know where the heck mommy & daddy live then...

I would venture to guess that you are completely incorrect in your assumption.
