Default Neighborhood changes in south Chicagoland

I've heard that now that very far south Chicagoland (Monee, Crete, Manhattan, etc.) are losing their appeal because the neighborhoods are "turning." Is this true at all?

Maybe. That's because people on this forum always scream NW Indiana whenever someone talks about moving down here.

I guess their thinking about the future. A lot of those homes are very expensive and they would hate to see their area turn to crap a decade later.

I understand but it makes me worry about my house. I am scared of my neighborhood being next. I feel like I moved into a great area, but I worry about how it will be down the line 3, 5, 7 years from now....

Didn't you say that you were moving as soon as you left college?

Opkl: Exactly. I'm not too thrilled about the segregation and white flight going on. But I still have to live here for at least another 5 years. I'm not guaranteed a job just because I have a college degree.

And Gioobag: I like diversity, but only if it means that I am around people who have diverse minds. It wouldn't bother me to live in an all black or all white, Asian, etc. as long as I was safe, comfortable and felt wanted! I feel unwelcome in places like Orland Park.

I would like to, and believe I am working on that now, as far as saving money and such.

Hahaha!!

What happened to Rome when the deluge of Germans spilled into its society? Hint: the greatest thing to ever happen for Islam. Today it is China that will fill the vacuum.

Sorry to laugh at your innocence.

I have posted about Crete and Monee before. Both are fantastic communities - somewhat rural, not crowded or cookie-cutter suburbs. They have been diverse for as long as I have had friends living there, all seem to view it as a strength. These are individuals who can afford to live in any suburb, but have chosen these particular towns for their large lot sizes, lack of traffic congestion and proximity to the Metra and 394 and 57 for commuting to the city and U of Chicago.

Of course it is true, the Chicago southland is mostly inferior compared to the Northern and Western parts of Chicagoland.
