I am a young female moving to Evanston from Florida and planning to lease an apartment at Skyline at Evanston. It's a great deal financially, but I am not sure how safe it really is. How safe is this neighborhood?

Skyline at Evanston is technically in Evanston, but it is surrounded by Chicago's Rodgers Park neighborhood. I would stay away from Howard Street. The location is convenient, and it is up-and-coming, but it is not safe like Wicker Park or Bucktown. If you are looking for an Evanston apartment I would look for properties further north in Evanston near Main Street, Chicago Avenue, Downtown, Northwestern University, and Central Street.

I would agree. Howard Street is changing slowly but I still would not live there. Everyplace else in Evanston is safe.

I agree with the others. Stay away from Howard St. area. Main/Chicago ave. is a great area. Also Central Ave, downtown Evanston are a couple of others. You don't want to move from Florida into the hood!

If all you do is walk from skyline to and from the transit center everyday you will most likely be fine.

Still, not the best place to live.

I have lived at Skyline since last December and am a young, single female like yourself. I love the building and find the location very convenient considering its proximity to the train station, grocery, etc. The building has doormen and is controlled access. Since I moved in, more retail establishments have opened as well. You have nothing to worry about and I'm sure will love your apartment as much as I do.
