Thanks for all the info. My husband is a PM in construction so his jobs will be all over the area, so it is hard to pin down a location. My son is in game design and will most likely working close to Chicago. Me I am in Medical office so I can work anywhere. $1600 is just a guess, until I get a job, it is a safe amount. It will probably go up when I work. We want to rent for a year to get a feel for the area. My daughter is 12 my son is 15. my other son, well he just graduated college. We would like a rental home, but will also do a town home, or an apartment for a while until we find something. As far as buying, well we would by a older fixer and fix it, that's what we like to do.

First go to the Police Station to whatever town/area you are thinking on moving to and ask them where the Sex Offenders are in each area of your concern and crime rates of each area. Then look for a place to live.

I would give Kane County a try. There are a lot of nice towns out here. It is definitely a good idea to rent for a year no matter where you move to figure out the area.
