Elmwood Park Neighborhood Civic Organization
I have just learned that Elmwood Park, which is nice town that is going through a struggle, due to a large # of foreclosures and a spike in gang related and violent crime, has just took a step forward. A well respected and established group of concerned residents have just formed the Elmwood Park Neighborhood Civic Organization. They are a separate entity from the Village or currrent administration, but they hope to work with village officials to solve and implement change for better. I just spoke with a few of their board of directors, and as a resident of this town, I am excited that I can voice my thoughts and concerns to this group. They are a grass roots, non-profit organization, that will strive to improve the town. One member of this civic organization stated that if I have any concerns, whether it be regarding crime, new commercial business, the lame Taste Of Elmwood Park, more activities for children, etc. that my voice will be heard at their first general meeting. Because I realize that there are other Elmwood Park residents on this site who are fed up- I am passing on the info. to all. The first general meeting will be on 08/12/09 at 600 p.m. on 7514 W. Diversey. I am excited and I hope this will bring positave change to the town that I still love.

They really need to work with Galewood,Belmont Heights,Montclare, and Schorsch Village neighborhoods of Chicago. They are neighbors to Elmwood Park and are having many problems as well.

Great point- in fact one of the board of directors of this new civic organization is the President of Montclare/Elmwood Park Chamber of Commerce. I hear they are gaining support from the suroounding city neighborhoods as well as River Grove.

Elmwood Park is still a great town, but this organization will only make it stronger and more appealing.

Make sure you get a lot of Hispanics on board. Believe me, they don't care if the problematic residents are of the same race.

I am soo glad to hear about that. I hope there is nothing but success and the scumballs would be driven out. Blue collar Joe desperately needs affordable safe neighborhoods where he does not have to get in his vehicle and drive just to get a loaf of bread or a quart of milk.

So true- if we as blue collar residents do not work to keep our neighborhoods intact- we will leave little options for our children in the future. I just checked out their website at myepnco.com and their mission statement was quite impressive. I truly hope the best for them- as their success will help all of our town.

I hear that a new funeral home is being built in September in the Circle in Elmwood Park to replace the one that was damaged due to a fire. There will be new owners- it will be called the Elms by Kolbus Funeral Directors and the Director who will run this new facility is a member of the Elmwood Park Neighborhood Civic Organization.

I attended the first general meeting of the Elmwood Park Neighborhood Civic Organization last night and I was very impressed. There was a packed room of almost 100 residents and I feel that they displayed their goals well and I am hopeful that this will revive the town that I still love. They hope to bring new businesses into town, more festivals and activities for kids, and they will work with the village officials to decrease crime and gangs. I no longer feel like I am the only one that thinks that it is time for a positave change in our town- I am so excited to see how many residents still care- Elmwood Park will be the town that it once was.
