What's wrong with Cook County?
There are a bunch of thread about how bad Cook County is, but is it really bad? Obviously, the sales taxes are ridiculous, but property taxes tend t be lower than surrounding areas. Other than the taxes, what else is wrong with Cook county?

The higher sales taxes and fees are symptomatic of a bloated corrupt County government. People are just fed up with the County Board, and particularly President Todd Stroger. The political organization in the city makes suburbanites feel disenfranchised.
Other than that, there is nothing wrong with Cook County. You generally get the benefit of being closer to Chicago, which many people find appealing (as long as they aren't bordering some terrible neighborhood).

Another thing to take in to consideration is the fact that Todd Stroger has managed to tick off both City and burb and is not likely to get support from the cities political organization. His replacement will very likely be from the Cities Political Organization but he himself is a goner.

There are plenty of nice burbs in Cook county, don't forget it goes all the way out to Streamwood.
Are the property taxes really lower? It used to be that way, but they have had recent increases. They need to get stroger out of there. He is giving the county a bad rep. Also that culture of corruption - which is historic and may never change.

Massive corruption, poor services, high taxes, and the constant aggravation knowing that most of your tax dollars are being spent on corruption while you get very little in return. And there's rapidly increasing gang activity in the inner suburbs. Other then that, it's great.

The exception being Summit which is not as nice as the neighborhood on the other side of Harlem.
