Definitely getting gigs and music connections. Practicing and living would be good to know too.

None. Most musicians gravitate toward the city especially if they are young and single. I do know some older ones who are married and have families in the suburbs. My son is a musician and he lives in Logan square. There are practice places in the city you can rent in lofts and warehouses. Most of the gigs are in the city such as Shubas, Empty Bottle, Double Door, Metro, etc. if you are a rock type band.If you must live in the suburbs I would think some of the inner ring ones would be best, like Oak Park or Evanston. Being in a suburb that has a lot of young people or college atmosphere might also be good.
